Project Details
The Flood Control District of Maricopa County (FCDMC) operates and maintains a network of structures, dams, levees, channels, pipelines and other flood control facilities throughout Maricopa County. This network includes Buckeye Flood Retarding Structure (FRS) No. 1 located near Buckeye, AZ , north of Interstate 10 and south of the White Tank Mountains. Originally built in the 1970s, this 7.1 mile long, 26 feet high, earth-filled dam detains floodwater from the north and conveys it west to the Hassyampa River.
In 2022, as part of their Dam Safety Program, the District awarded the Buckeye FRS No. 1 Rehabilitation project using the CMAR delivery method. With a construction cost of approximately $22 million and a 2 year duration, this project included raising the dam height by 3 feet, reinforcing the auxiliary spillway, installing a central filter, extending the principal spillway, building a major reinforced concrete box culvert, adding rip rap bank protection, and constructing new ramps and maintenance roads.

Role/Scope
Through our Construction Management and Inspection On-Call Services contract, QT provided a full team to oversee all aspects of the construction contract. The team was comprised of the Construction Manager, multiple Construction Engineers and Inspectors, and an Office Document Administrator. Our team worked very closely with personnel from FCDMC, ADWR, NRCS, the Contractor, the designer, the geotechnical engineer, and the project Construction Quality Assurance Manager.
